Bras Support Large Tomatoes! (News at 11)

Bras Support Large Tomatoes! - TomatoCasual.comBy Tomato Queen

Old bras? Support hose? Clean diapers?

As they say, “large tomatoes need support.”

And one frugal blogger by the name of golbguru illustrates how to support those extra-large tomatoes by holding up an old, unwanted bra between stakes so that the fruit can nestle in the cups.

S/he gets the idea from Living Well On a Shoestring, a home economics publication that provides other helpful hints such as placing a clean (disposable) diaper underneath the soil and planting a tomato plant on top to serve as a subterranean water reservoir.

Certainly, other more biodegradable alternatives exist for keeping your soil hydrated (but not overly), such as watersorb polymer crystals.

But for those in a pinch, we use what we have at hand.

Lastly, if you happen to have old nylons, stockings or pantyhose, keep them in the gardening bin; they do come in handy as lightweight tomato ties and support slings.
