The World’s Ugliest Tomatoes

Ugly Tomato

By Michelle Fabio

We’ve all seen them—those tomatoes that seem to have strange growths, indentations, and general deformities.

You might’ve even kept a few on your counter to show people because your descriptions could never do them justice.

Well for all those ugly tomatoes out there, there’s hope—in the form of a contest.

Sponsored by Santa Sweets™, marketers of the UglyRipe® tomato, the competition to find the world’s ugliest tomato ended up with 10 winners, which you can see on the blog of Santa Sweets™, The Tasty Tomato.

Santa Sweets™ is a Plant City, Florida company owned by Procacci Brothers Sales Corporation (PBSC), headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In addition to the UglyRipe® tomato, the company is also known for its Santa Sweets™ grape tomatoes and is also one of the largest producers of USDA-certified organic tomatoes as well.

Regarding the “Ugly Tomato” contest, CEO of PBSC Joe Procacci said, “I have been in the tomato-growing business for over 60 years and I have never seen tomatoes this ugly!”

Looks like beauty is in the eye of the tomato.
