How to Remove Tomato Stains

By Michelle Fabio
This is a topic near and dear to my heart—tomatoes seem to just find their way onto our clothes and tablecloths with great ease.
Here’s how to get rid of tomato stains on the spot (hah!):
1. Remove excess tomato from fabric and then run cold water from the back of the fabric through to the front.
2. Gently rub liquid detergent on the stain, and then, for white fabric or colored fabric you’ve tested for colorfastness, dab on a bit of hydrogen peroxide, white vinegar, or lemon juice, and then rinse well.
3. Put on a stain remover agent and let sit for at least 10 minutes and then wash normally—but be careful not to dry the garment before you’ve made sure that the stain is completely gone.
If the stain still remains, repeat steps two and three again, and hopefully this time, the fabric will emerge tomato free.
They are stubborn, those tomatoes, aren’t they?
