The Wisdom of Hiding under Tomato Plants
By Michelle Fabio
It’s no secret that we love tomatoes around here, but it’s only fair to point out that in some cases, tomato plants just aren’t the right choice.
Like when you’re trying to hide from authorities for instance.
After learning that he was about to be placed in custody on drug possession charges, Todd Corcoran of Waltham, Massachusetts pushed a court employee into a door and an officer onto the tile floor, on which the officer hit her head, and fled the courthouse.
After being refused help from an elderly man who brandished his cane and told Corcoran to “back off,” the fugitive then flagged down a red pick-up truck and hopped into the passenger seat next to two men in their sixties.
A nearby motorcycle officer saw the whole thing, though, and as he approached the truck, Corcoran fled on foot. He was found hiding under some tomato plants in a nearby yard soon thereafter.
The 38-year-old will now face additional charges of escape from a municipal lock-up, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (the courthouse door and tile floor), and attempted carjacking.
As of this writing, there was no word on the condition of any of the potentially injured parties or the tomato plants.
