I’ll Bet You a Tomato
By Michelle Fabio
Soon the New York Giants will be playing the Green Bay Packers in the NFC championship game and there’s more than a spot in the Super Bowl at stake.
There’s also a little matter of tomatoes.
New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine has pledged to send Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle a case of Jersey fresh tomatoes should his Giants fall to the Pack. New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has pledged New York pastrami if the East Coast team loses.
On the other hand, if Green Bay wins, Doyle will have to send bratwurst to both governors; although the Giants have New York in their name, you see, they play their games in New Jersey thus giving them two states to call home.
On the friendly wager, Doyle quipped, “I don’t mind that the two governors are ganging up on me because Charles Woodson and the Packers secondary will be teaming up on Giants quarterback Eli Manning all night on Sunday.”
From this tomato lover’s perspective, though, I have to believe Governor Doyle got the better deal on this wager—no offense to pastrami and bratwurst of course.

Looks like that case of tomatoes will be staying in New Jersey. Go Giants!

As a lifetime Eagles fan, I can’t believe I’m saying this–but Go Giants! One gets tired of seeing the same teams win all the time
