Tomato Love Stories
By Michelle Fabio
For Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d share my own tomato love story, or how I fell in love with the tomato.
There are more of these stories published at Gary Ibsen’s TomatoFest website, which inspired me to think about my earliest memories of eating and enjoying the beloved tomato.
Food memories always tend to hold of lot of comfort and nostalgia for times past, but nothing reminds me more of my childhood than a tomato fresh out of the garden.
Indeed, if you ask me the perfect way to eat a tomato, I would say that fresh is best. As many of you know, I live in Italy so I eat a lot of tomatoes in sauces too, but to me, nothing can compare with Genoa salami and a firm slice of tomato on fresh Italian bread—my all-time favorite sandwich since my Italian-American grandmother made them for me as snacks as a child.
Do you remember how you fell in love with tomatoes? What is your tomato love story?
Remember you can also submit it at TomatoFest.

Love the heart shaped tomato with your story…we are really enjoying the tomato love stories coming in and look forward to receiving many more. Our seeds are just about ready to go into the greenhouse for another incredibly yummy season.
Thank you for all the great work on your site.
Warmly,
