Tomatoes for Obama

By Michelle Fabio

We’ve told you about Pelting Political Pundits with Tomatoes, and now here is your chance to use your tomatoes to support one candidate in particular–Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Obama supporter Renae Skoog has decided to organize the planting a Victory Garden like many Americans did during World Wars I and II to help combat rising food prices, and she encourages you to do the same.

As Skoog writes, “Don’t wait for a politician to tell you they will take care of you. Take care of yourself!”

During the weekend of May 4, Skoog planted her victory garden, including tomatoes, in order to “[s]ay “No” to paying $1.89/lb for a thick skinned, no-taste (probably imported) tomato this year.”

She advises that you can share plants with your neighbors and then in the fall “exchange some squash or tomatoes and talk about life, perhaps the election, and how a few plants brought you together and saved you from the high prices at the grocery store.”

“DIG FOR VICTORY!” Skoog writes.

Hey, even if your candidate of choice doesn’t win this fall, at least you’ll have tomatoes.
