Eating at home is on the rise – no small feat in our ultra-busy world.
People are preparing their own food again for fun, to save money, and to savor the goodness of homestyle cooking.
In order to inspire would-be cooks to create tasty meals in their homes, Hunts Tomatoes is holding the “Best Meals, Best Moments” recipe contest.
“We’re looking forward to trying America’s favorite recipes and to learning how our tomatoes have played a role in people’s best memories.”” said Laura Flanagan, vice president and general manager of ConAgra Foods’ Grocery Group.
Contestants can upload recipes with a note explaining what is memorable about their meal and why it is the best recipe. Recipes must be received by December 8, 2008.
As the rules state:
- The Entry must feature Hunt’s diced, whole, crushed, or stewed tomatoes;
- The Entry must contain a recipe name, ingredients used, cooking instruction, memorable moment, and approximate preparation time and approximate number of servings;
- The Entry cannot have been submitted previously in a promotion of any kind or exhibited or displayed publicly through any means
The judges will select what they deem as the top 500 recipes, based on Creativity (33%), Completeness (33%), and Memorable Moment (34%). These semifinalists will win “Martha Stewart’s Cooking School: Lessons and Recipes for the Home Cook” cookbook and $2.00 coupon for a free Hunts product.
The judges will then select 6 finalists, who will win $150 Williams Sonoma Gift Card and one (1) year supply of HuntsÂ® products awarded as fifty-two (52) $2.00 coupons redeemable for Hunt’s products.
After that, the public will be able to vote for their favorite recipe. The winner will receive a trip for two to Gourmet Magazine’s Sonoma Valley Wine Weekend in 2009. One randomly selected voter will also win the trip.
This contest sounds like a lot of fun. While I am sure everyone here will agree that homegrown tomatoes are much tastier, this contest will inspire people who may not have much access to fresh produce to eat at home more. I already have a recipe in mind to enter.
