Australian Pink Pearl Cherry Tomatoes to Fight Breast Cancer
By Michelle Fabio
We know that tomatoes are good for us, but now Seminis, an internationally renowned seed development company, is releasing Pink Pearl cherry tomatoes in Australia in order to benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
Pink is the international color for breast cancer awareness, and so, Seminis found pairing the Pink Pearl tomatoes with NBCF to be a “good fit.”
“Globally Seminis is involved in many community based projects but this particular concept is a first. We had to meet key criteria throughout the process including traceability and charity legislation requirements,” said John McBride, the Seminis Vegetable Seeds Western Australia manager.
“Pink Pearl cherry tomatoes meet all these objectives and we are confident they will both raise vital funds for breast cancer research and help Seminis achieve a significant share of the cherry tomato market.”
Favorable growing conditions in Australia means the Pink Pearls will be available year-round–and marketed as breast cancer awareness tools year-round as well, and not just in October during Breast Cancer Awareness as with many “Pink Ribbon” products.
“The agreement with the NBCF ensures the Pink Pearl will always be sold in punnets displaying the Pink Ribbon, and assures selected growers they have the opportunity to grow an exceptional variety while supporting the NBCF,” said McBride.
