From Tomato Cage to Christmas Decoration
By Vanessa Richins
A friend was telling me about how she was making a Christmas tree from a tomato cage.
I thought this was intriguing.
She doesn’t have her project up on her website yet, but evidently she is not the first person to come up with this idea.
I found several websites that took the humble tomato cage to new heights for Christmas, from Christmas trees, to snowflakes, to snowmen.
DIYNetwork
DIYNetwork’s website features instructions for several different kinds of tomato cage Christmas trees. Their suggestions include :
- A tinsel tree (wrapping tinsel around the frame and adding ornaments)
- A feather tree (using feather boas)
- A fiesta tree (with cornhusks and fabric trims)
- A natural tree (using twig garlands)
Our very own Michelle Fabio wrote about instructions from P. Allen Smith, including a Youtube video.
Recycle several home items with this tree from JunkmarketStyle - it uses old wreathes, a galvanized tub, and a tomato cage.
On the Do it Yourself Christmas forum, there are instructions to make a snowflake from 2 tomato cages. You will need to join (for free) if you want to see the picture.
The Desert Saints magazine has instructions for some cute felt snowman that are 4′ tall and 2′ tall.(they can also be decorated as ghosts for Halloween)
Have you ever made something for Christmas from a tomato cage?
