Crafty Tomato
By Vanessa Richins
Last October Kira Hamman wrote about some tomato-related crafts you could work on this fall and winter as you wait for tomato growing season to start again. It’s that time of year again, so I thought I would scour the net for some more nifty tomato craft projects.
If you missed this the first time, be sure to check Goodness. I’m not even quite sure what to say about this project. It’s basically a tomato with one large eyeball. Who doesn’t want that in their house, right? (I do want one, actually!)
I think it is always good to have a lot of potholders on hand. With this pattern you can crochet your own set of vintage tomato potholders.
A few years back I discovered an awesome site called Craftster.org. Many people seem to go beyond the “standard” crafts into wacky and wonderful realms. Such is the case with this tomato hat. It’s evidently based on a challenge from Project Runway. Grape tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, fishing line and wire are strung together to create a cute hat. After she was done wearing it, she left it out for the birds.
This sounds almost good enough to eat! A mixture of ground tomatoes, tomato paste and basil are added to oils to make a soap.
I have a croquet set here. Wouldn’t it be nifty to decorate it with Bob the Tomato and the other characters from Veggie Tales?
Wat tomato crafts have you made?
