El Tomato Tornado
By Vanessa Richins
I think I’ve just played one of the strangest tomato games ever.
My Google Alerts mentioned something about a game called “El Tomato Tornado.”
With a name like that, I knew I had to check it out.
The game offers a concise description : “Tomatoes can’t hurt you, the baddest wrestler in town, el Tornado! Or can they? In this game, dodge all the tomatoes you can, or get K.O.’ed!”
I clicked on “play” for the Flash game and found myself guiding a wrestler with a tomato for a head. It reminded me of Lucha Libre or the WWE. A crowd cheers and boos in the background. The ropes twang when you hit them and the tomatoes make a squishing sound when they hit you.
The game is quite simple to play. At the bottom is a row of ten hearts, representing how many times you can be hit with a tomato before you are KO’d. You get one heart filled up again each time you level up.
I used the arrow keys to hurl myself around the ring and bounce off the ropes. Tomatoes hurled at me from all directions and I scrambled to get out of their way. I managed to level up a couple of times and score 363 before I got hit by too many tomatoes.
That’s it. Nothing more. I find myself wanting to play more, though. There’s something oddly intriguing about ducking tomatoes in a wrestling ring.
Check out the game here. Can you beat my score?
