Nieves’ girlfriend, Tina, was in town for the weekend, and they had emerged from their day in bed to join us for dinner.

They brought several of her last tomatoes over, and I sliced the biggest, ripest one on the spot to serve with walnut oil, sea salt, balsamic, and olive bread.

Because as much as you want the season to linger, it’s fleeting.

After learning that he was about to be placed in custody on drug possession charges, Todd Corcoran of Waltham, Massachusetts pushed a court employee into a door and an officer onto the tile floor, on which the officer hit her head, and fled the courthouse.

Space: The Final Frontier for Tomatoes

If space is truly the final frontier for tomatoes, they can cross that one off the to-do list.

Back in 1984, over 12 million tomato seeds from the George W. Park Seed Company in Greenwood, South Carolina were sent up into space on the Space Shuttle Challenger.

There they had a little space vacation on the Long Duration Expose Facility until they were collected by the crew of Columbia six years later.

It is all about a building in Collinsville, Illinois that was built to resemble, what else?

A catsup bottle.

The town has created quite a little tourism by making the large, red piece of architecture (actually a watertower) stay in the forefront of people’s minds when they come anywhere near the place.

Since Britney Spears’ performance on the MTV Video Music Awards, it seems like everyone has an opinion on her music as well as on her mental and physical health.

Without getting into my personal opinions on what happened in Vegas (and hey, isn’t that supposed to stay in Vegas anyway?), I’m going to talk about what Spears could learn from our favorite fruit around these parts–the tomato.

1. Some bad spots don’t ruin the whole tomato; just cut them off and make juice or something. We all have difficulties in our lives, but the trick is to slice them away and focus on the good, gleaning whatever positives we can from a given situation.
